Harrison Park
is located on the south end of the old downtown business district
on Hohman Avenue (remember who he was?).
To be honest, this photo of Harrison Park is obviously a fake. It
never looked this good! But when the water
was clean, boys used to fish and swim here.
Once when I was about five or six years old, I went swimming with my family. I stepped off the edge in water over my head. All I could see were the legs of other swimmers above me, treading water. As I drifted to the bottom, my Grandmother reached down, grabbed me by the hair and pulled me up before I drowned. That was my first swimming experience. At the time, I thought I was doing pretty good!
While Harrison Park is still home to 4th of
July picnics and civic events, the pond can no longer be used for
swimming or fishing.
