The panoramic photo of the Thomas Alva Edison Elementary School in Hammond, Indiana, cannot begin to show the expanse and decorative beauty of this three story school.

The iron "Snowflake" crest in the above center of the entrance welcomed generations of students. The Snowflake now sits in the lobby of the new Edison School at the same site.

What child would not enjoy going to school and being greeted by a 4 foot decorative column sculpture of a child holding a rabbit, building a towering brick structure. We didn't know exactly what it represented but it whimsical, symbolic and fun. How you could not have a good learning experience?

And the kids at Edison School enjoyed the birds and the flowers all year long, presented by stone column headers on the exterior of the building.

And the fanciful images of sailboats, a dragonfly, a wagon and another flower lured our thoughts to other adventures even while we were inside the building. So many symbols of fun and exploration challenged our imagination at Edison School.
